Privacy Policy

How ContextShift handles data on your machine and what we do not collect.

Summary

ContextShift is designed to keep your workspace data on your computer. We do not operate a backend that receives your Contexts, window lists, browser tabs, or terminal state.

Data stored on your device

When you capture a Context, the app may store application names and paths, window titles and positions, monitor layout, browser URLs/tabs (if the extension is installed), and terminal working directories.

This data is written locally (JSON under %APPDATA%\ContextShift). You can delete Contexts or the app data folder at any time.

What we do not collect

We do not require an account to try the app. We do not ship built-in product analytics or telemetry that uploads your workspace contents.

Optional third-party services (for example license activation or payment providers) process only the information needed to complete that transaction, under their own policies.

Browser extension

The optional browser extension runs locally and sends tab information to the desktop app via native messaging so full tab sets can be captured and restored. It does not send your tabs to our servers.

Data controller

The data controller for the purposes of this policy is Rémy Binsztock, operating as a French sole trader (auto-entrepreneur), 14 Rue Pierre Gilles de Gennes, Antony, France. See our Legal Notice page for full company details, or contact contact@context-shift.com for any privacy request.

Purpose and legal basis

We process the limited data described above to provide the trial, activate and validate licenses, and respond to support requests. Our legal basis is performance of a contract (providing the app and license you requested), our legitimate interest in operating and securing the Software, or your consent where applicable.

Processors we use

License activation and payment are handled by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as merchant of record and processes checkout and billing information under its own privacy policy. This provider may process data outside your country; where it does, it applies its own safeguards as merchant of record and payment processor.

Data retention

Contexts and workspace data stay on your device under your control until you delete them — we never receive a copy. Support emails and license or purchase records are kept only as long as needed to resolve your request or as required by tax and accounting rules, then deleted or anonymized.

Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent where processing relies on it. Because we don’t hold workspace data ourselves, most of it lives only on your device, in Contexts you fully control. For anything we do hold (support or purchase records), contact contact@context-shift.com. You can also lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.

Cookies

The ContextShift website does not set analytics or advertising cookies. If you open the embedded license checkout, our payment processor (Lemon Squeezy) may set its own cookies to run that checkout — see their policy for details.

Children’s privacy

ContextShift is not directed at children, and we don’t knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we’ll delete it.

Updates to this policy

We may update this policy when the product changes. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will change when we do. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
